Command Secondary School Lungi Barracks, Abuja Draws Cheers, Celebrates Sportsmanship at 16th Inter-House Competition

Excitement filled the air as students, teachers, parents, and well-wishers gathered for the Command Secondary School Lungi Barracks, Abuja 16th Inter-House Sports Competition on 18th February 2025 at Guards Brigade Sports Complex, Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the special Guest Of Honour, the Commander of, the Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya commended the school management for combining academic pursuits with the training of students for sports and some other extra-curricular activities which will definitely add to boosting the student's mental capacity.

"I want to say congratulations and I commend you for your efforts.

He also lauded the students for participating in the sporting event, particularly, the overall winner "Tiger House" for their very impressive performance and with the show they put on today.

He encouraged the house master and other officials that are attached to Scorpions House to ensure that next year, the athletes should raise the flag.

In his remark, the Gust of Honour, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District in the 10th Assembly ably represented by Mr Michael Nwoko expressed delight at the level of engagement and excitement displayed by the students. 

"What we have witnessed here is a display of sporting talents by these young ones. That's what  Senator Nwoko represents by having a sports university which is the first in Sub Sahara." he said

He urged parents to continue encouraging their wards to participate in extra-curricular activities to enhance their overall well-being.

Senator Nwoko encouraged students to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and see competitions as an opportunity to develop physically and mentally. 

Earlier, the Grand Patron, Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Maj.-Gen. Koko Isoni, represented by Lt. Col Muhammed said this year's events are truly special. It has brought a new chapter in sporting tradition. 

"We are proudly introducing new sports, like swimming, chess, scrabble, volleyball and table tennis. The competition challenges the athletes unlocking potential in them, who knows perhaps amongst them today, might be the next champion who will represent our great nation on a global stage. 

"Giving glory to Nigeria in the coming years. We must never forget the vital roles sport plays in sharpening individuals  Sports are not merely physical contest, it's a lessons in life,  just as academic excellence is celebrated, so, too, its resilience, teamwork, discipline and leadership in sports," he said

He noted that Command Secondary School Lungi Barracks, Abuja understand the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for your child to thrive.

The Special Guest Of Honour, the Commander of, the Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, the Guest of honour, Sen Ned Nwoko, represented by Mr Michael Nwoko, and other guests later presented gifts, presentation of trophies/medals to deserving houses and schools.

In the overall Competition Tiger House came top with 14 points, Stallion House emerged first runner-up with 12 points while Rhino House having pulled 17 points emerged the second runner-up in the competition.


Highlights of the event were March Pass by competing Houses, tug of war, Relay race, football, handball, Badminton, Tennis, short put, Discus, Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, 200, 400, 800, 4x100m, 1500m, and new sporting activities swimming, chess, scrabble, volleyball and table tennis.
