The Nigerian military has made significant strides in 2024, surpassing its achievements in 2023. Despite facing diverse threats in five active theatres of operations across the country, including the Northeast, Northwest, Northcentral, Southsouth, and Southeast, the military has maintained a high level of alertness and readiness.
Through ongoing operations in these theatres, the military has successfully created an environment that hinders terrorists' ability to carry out attacks and harm citizens. This is a testament to the military's dedication, resilience, and commitment to protecting the nation.
At the media bi-weekely briefing at Defence Headquarters today, 5th December 2024, the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba revealed that troops aggression across the various theatres of Operation since the beginning of the year culminated in 8,034 neutralized terrorists, 11,623 arrest and 6,376 rescued hostages.
He added that, troops recovered 8,216 weapons, 211,459 ammunitions and denied the oil theft of an estimated sum over #57 bn (N57,052,218,551.00) only. Troops recovered: 53,101,430 litres of stolen crude oil, 9,179,181 litres of illegally refined AGO and 90,595 litres of DPK. Others are; 156,095 litres of PMS amongst other items.
From January till date, troops of Operations HADIN KAI neutralized 2,918 terrorists, arrested 2,285 suspects and rescued 1,496 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, troops recorded 257 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families.
Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 411 violent extremist, arrested 1,859 and rescued 927 kidnap hostages, while troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 583 terrorists, arrested 916 suspects and rescued 649 kidnapped hostages.
Since the beginning of the year till date, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI neutralized 2,646 terrorists, arrested 1,654 suspects and rescued 2,339 kidnap hostages, while troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH neutralized 732 terrorists, arrested 1,842 suspects and rescued 569 kidnap hostages.
Since the beginning of the year till date, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE neutralized 78 terrorists, arrested 2,176 persons involved in crude oil theft and rescued 73 kidnapped hostages. Troops also denied the oil theft of 53,101,430 litres of crude oil, 9,179,181 litres of AGO, 90,595 litres of DPK and 156,095 litres of PMS. Furthermore, troops recovered 524 assorted weapons, 12,974 assorted ammunition and destroyed 1,880 wooden boats as well as 2,413 illegal refining sites.
Since January till date, troops of Op UDO KA neutralized 666 terrorists, arrested 893 suspects and rescued 323 kidnap hostages.

There is inrease in Counter-Terrorism Efforts. The military has intensified its counter-terrorism operations, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorist leaders and the disruption of their networks.
In 2024, there is improvement in Civil-Military Relations. The military has strengthened its engagement with local communities, fostering trust and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
These achievements demonstrate the military's unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria's sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its citizens. As the military continues to build on these successes, it is clear that 2024 has been a remarkable year for the Nigerian armed forces.
Also Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Buba said troops have since the beginning of the year been confronted by different threats in five active theatres of operations across the country, namely; NE, NW, NC, SS and SE. Accordingly, troops adopted a high level of alert and an increased state of readiness to protect the country from further terrorist aggression and insecurity.
The military is keeping up the pressure through ongoing operations in the various theatres across the country. The military is through these operations, increasingly creating conditions in which terrorist can not carry out acts of terror or harm citizens.
On the whole, the armed forces is constantly examining ways to improve the effectiveness of its operations and guarantee the safety of citizens. Relatedly, operations are on an upward trajectory to winning the war.
