The Nigerian Military on Friday said its has arrested, disarmed, and detained a naval personnel, LS Akila A, deployed at FOB Dansadua for Operation FANSAN YAMMA who opened fire and killed a fellow military colleague under questionable circumstances, leading to swift action by the Nigerian Military, investigation has since commenced.
In a press statement signed by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, confirmed that this took place today, Friday 25 October 2024, at about 0312hrs.
General Buba assured that after investigation, the case will be escalated to a standing court martial setup to address such misdemeanor among troops.
"Meanwhile, the administrative procedure for notifying the family of the deceased is ongoing. It is for this reason, his name is not yet released to the public. Nevertheless, the name will be released in due course.
"Accordingly, we urge the media to exercise caution in reporting in order not to further demoralised the family of the deceased, please" he said
