Military Troops Wipe Out Several Terrorists Leaders in North East, North West, Neutralize 419 in August - DHQ

 

The Defence Headquarters says, in the month of August 2024, it's troops have prioritized targeting the terrorist leaders. They have wiped out several commanders, foot soldiers as well as their collaborators.

Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba said this today, Thursday 29th August 2024 in Abuja while briefing media on activities of troops across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

According to General Buba already, the military has declared that all these terrorist leaders, commanders and agents dead men walking. "It was a threat, but a fact as we have indeed taken out several of this terrorist leaders andlĺcommanders off the battlefield."

He said in the North East, this month only, military troops took out the following terrorist leaders and commanders. Munir Arika, Sani Dilla (aka Dan Hausawan Jibilarram), Ameer Modu, Dan Fulani Fari Fari, Bakoura Araina Chikin, Dungusu, Abu Darda and Abu Rijab.

He added that while in the North West, this month alone, troops wiped out; Kachalla Dan Ali Garin Fadama, Kachalla Dan Mani Na Inna, Kachalla Basiru Zakariyya, Sani Baka Tsine, Inusa Zangon Kuzi, Ibrahim, Tukur and Kamilu Buzaru, and several others.

Giving a comprehensive update on the activities of troops in all theatres, General Buba revealed the outcomes of operations in the month of August 2024. He said this month, troops neutralized 419 terrorists, arrested 767 suspects, while rescuing 448 kidnapped hostages.

He added that, troops recovered 278 weapons, 11,617 assorted ammo and denied oil theft of an estimated sum over N4bn (N4,062,395,580) only.

The breakdown of recoveries made during the month is as follows: 149 AK47 rifles, 49 locally fabricated guns and 8,115 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, among others.

Overall, during the month of August 2024, troops of Operations HADIN ΚΑΙ neutralized 237 terrorists, arrested 215 suspects and rescued 206 kidnapped hostages.

Additionally, troops recorded a total of 4,582 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families. Additionally, troops recorded 2,243 surrendered BH/ISWAP terrorists combatants and their families. The summary of recovered items include: 102 AK47 rifles, 3,223 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo among other items.

Significant results were recorded from the operations. For instance; 3 high profile gunrunners namely Armaya'u Abdulkarim (aka Mallam), Danladi Kefas and Williams Haruna were arrested in separate operations in Plateau State.

Relatedly, arrest was made of another notorious violent extremist/gunrunner named Mallam Hashimu Ahmad in Lere LGA of Kaduna State.

Furthermore, troops arrested a notorious kidnapper named Sebastian Caleb in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State. Troops also intercepted and arrested 7 illegal miners in Jos North LGA of Plateau State.

Overall, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 41 violent extremists, arrested 259 and rescued 110 kidnap hostages. Troops also recovered 2 AK47 rifles, 16 assorted arms, and 2,284 rounds of 7.62mm special among others.

For instance, troops arrested some notorious gun runners namely James Nuhu and Dan'Asabe Anogo. Both were arrested in Wukari Metropolis of Taraba State.

Similarly, troops arrested a terrorist commander and gun runner named Isyaka Yusuf (aka Jammini). Не was arrested in Bantaji Market in Taraba State.

Troops also arrested a female gun runner at Zuba Bridge Motor park. Troops equally arrested 2 other gunrunners. One was arrested in Makurdi in Benue State, while the other was arrested at Karu LGA of Nasarawa State.

Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 32 terrorists, arrested 77 suspects and rescued 40 kidnapped hostages. Troops also recovered 5 AK47 rifles, 5 assorted arms and 118 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, among others.

During the month of August 2024, troop of Operation HADARIN - DAJI neutralized 118 terrorists, arrested 89 suspects and rescued 165 kidnap hostages.

Troops equally recovered 19 AK47 rifles, 14 assorted arms and 2,058 rounds of 7.62mm special, among others.

General Buba affirmed that Troops have displayed stamina and have done a tremendous job of significantly dismantling these terror groups particularly in the NE. Today in the BHT/ISWAP is a declining threat, though still active. He sasid their motivations are lowered and lower each passing day, making it easier to destroy their will to fight and win the war.

The motivation of the terrorist is getting lower and lower, particularly in the NE. The time to replicate same in other theatres is now and troops are committed to achieving it

Troops are on high alert and we have increased our readiness to protect the country from further terrorist aggression.

"We understand that this war is not a quick fix, but a long and enduring military operation of which at the end, these terrorists will be destroyed and we will have safer nation.

"What we mostly witness today are low level skirmishes and attacks which are more prevalently on soft targets. Nevertheless, troops are aware that we are dealing with a shrewd, ruthless and brutal enemy. Accordingly, we are prepared to act with the relevant level of force that would be needed to dismantle these groups, in whatever form they take.

"Our strategy is to undermine the abilities of these terror groups. Thereafter, we shall create conditions whereby these terrorist cannot carry out acts of terror or harm citizens." he said
