Major Blow to Oil Thieves: Military Denies Them N943 Billion, Arrests 23 Perpetrators, 147 Neutralized, 381 Terrorists Arrested

The Military operation in six geopolitical zones of the country in the past one week has yielded result as troops neutralized 147 and arrested 381 persons, 23 perpetrators of oil theft arrested and rescued 113 kidnapped hostages, denied oil thieves of N943 billion.

Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba on Thursday, 15th August 2024 during the bi-weekely media briefing disclosed this and noted that the military and other security agencies remain focused on defeating and killing the enemy wherever they are hiding. "I must also state that, we are in a better place today, than at any previous time."

General Buba affirmed that, troops will sustenance the renewed vigor and momentum till the nations crude oil production target is achieved and exceeded. 

Though he lament that the military are not yet at where they want to be in terms of daily crude oil production. "I can say that, we are on the right track."

"Recall that recently our operations were rejigged in the war against crude oil theft operations in the Niger Delta."

General Buba also pointed out major achievements in the South South, as troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of over N943 billion only. Furthermore, troops recovered 74 assorted weapons and 3,498 assorted ammunition.

"We recovered 42 AK47 rifles, 288 rounds RG55 ammo and 470 rounds of 7.62mm NATO amongst other items.

He said Troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed 15 dugout pits and 27 storage tanks, among other items.

Additionally, troops recovered 920,800 litres of stolen crude oil, 88,760 litres of illegally refined AGO and 7,500 litres of PMS.

Boko Haram/ISWAP/JAS terrorists combatants with their families surrendered to troops in Bama, Gwoza and Dikwa LGAs of Borno State.

Troops also raided terrorist enclaves in Bama and Damboa LGAs of Borno State. While, they arrested terrorist combatants in Gujba and Geidam LGAs of Yobe State.

Meanwhile, troops conducted fighting patrols and ambushes in Damboa, Bama, Gwoza LGAs as well as Maiduguri Municipal Council, all in Borno State.

Overall, troops of Operation HADIN ΚΑΙ neutralized 81 terrorists, arrested 52 suspects and rescued 34 kidnappers hostages.

Troops recovered 21 AK47 rifles, 344 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 320 rounds of 7.62mm NATO amongst others.

Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH neutralized 9 terrorists, arrested 171 suspects and rescued 6 kidnapped hostages.

Troops recovered one AK47 rifle, 1,641 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 49 rounds of 7.62mm NATO amongst others.
