The military on Thursday said, it has detected some unscrupulous elements bent on hijacking the planned protest with the aim of making it violent. Many are therefore following in ignorance.
Major General Edward Buba, Director Media Operations disclosed this today, 25 July 2024 at the bi-weekly media briefing with Defence Correspondents at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
General Buba revealed that there are indications that if you possess a smart phone, a car, a shop, own a house, or even use air conditioner in your house, you have been labelled a target.
He added that other labelled targets are; places of worship, businesses, markets, ethnic groups and members of opposing political party among others.
He said accordingly, the level of violence being envisage can only be described as a state of anarchy. The armed forces on its part, will not standby and allow anarchy to be fall the nation.
"This is because we have seen wars and have witnessed anarchy in countries in which we have operated particularly during ECOMOG or during peacekeeping operations.
"Some persons out there may fantasize about war or a state of anarchy, thinking that, it is like in the movies.
"I assure you, it is no movie because you're dealing with real life and real people. A situation of anarchy or war, should not be fantasised. People lose loved ones and everything they ever toiled for or possessed.
"Simply put, horrible and ugly things happen in such situations. We must never as a people bring it upon ourselves. On the whole, It must be said that, the timing and present atmosphere of hardship in the country is different from other times when protest were held in past in this country.
"It must also be said, that if you ignite the fire, there is no telling how far the fire will burn. We must allow cool heads to reign and give the government the opportunity to further remedy the situation and make our nation flourish agagai"he noted
