The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has revealed that foreign sponsors with ulterior motives to cause mayhem and violent protests, are behind the planned nationwide protests scheduled to begin on August 1, 2024.
IGP Egbetokun who made this revelation on Friday during a media briefing at the Force Headquarters, said “We have been monitoring development surrounding protest threats. While some groups call for violent protests, emulating Kenya’s recent events, others advocate for peaceful demonstrations.”
The IGP however called on leaders of different groups intending to protest to register with the Police command in their respective states, adding that those who fail to meet with the directive will be tagged as having ulterior motives.
He further said all protesting groups must also provide the intended venue, routes, and locations of the protest movement for proper coordination.
