President Bola Ahmend Tinubu in line with the theme of the celebration, “Nigerian Air Force at 60: Leveraging Strategic Partnerships in Aerospace Innovations for Regional Security” pledged his administration commitment to continue to partner with friends and allies in the sub-region and beyond to addreommon security challenges for global peace and security.
The President who was represented by Vice president Kasim Shettima excited to see that many partners and air forces from across the world and especially Africa participated in the events of NAF Diamond Jubilee Anniversary celebration, stressed that the increasing globalisation and interconnectedness of nations require collaborative efforts to address contemporary security challenges.
At the ceremonial parade to commemorate Nigerian Air Force 60th anniversary, President Tinubu proudly affirmed that "without any fear of contradiction, we are proud of Nigerian Air Force for its achievement in securing our nation and the sub-region through the employment of air power.
He said the Nigerian Air Force has, over these 60 years, transformed into a formidable, agile and resilient air force that is equipped and poised to effectively tackle both contemporary and future security challenges and has been able to meet its international obligations in the pursuit of regional and sub-regional peace and security.
"During my inaugural address a year ago, I noted that security would be the top priority of my administration. This is in line with Robert McNamara’s postulation that security is development, thus development only takes place when a nation is secure. I am glad to state that we have continued to support the modernisation efforts of our Armed Forces to address national and sub-regional security challenges.
"Obviously, sustaining a Service like the Nigerian Air Force that derives its potency from technological assets is a capital-intensive venture. Nevertheless, we have made substantial investments in procuring state-of-the-art multi-role combat aircraft and attack helicopters, as well as sensors and equipment that would significantly enhance its capabilities.
"Some of these include Beechcraft King Air 360 aircraft, Diamond 62 surveillance aircraft, T-129 ATAK helicopters, Agusta 109 trekker multi-role helicopters and M-346 attack aircraft, to boost our combat and airlift capabilities. A few of these platforms have arrived the country, while others will be coming in shortly.
"My administration has since inception employed multipronged approaches to tackle these issues. While our economic policies may have some accompanied with some discomfort for the citizenry, we are confident that in a short while from now, the country would be on a sound economic footing. This would give us more impetus to provide the necessary resources, support, and care for our military personnel as well as their families, in appreciation of their service and sacrifice."
He also acknowledged the presence of the few surviving members of the first set of pioneer NAF personnel.
"While we acknowledge the dedication and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform, we salute your unparalleled bravery, commitment and service to the nation. We also pay tribute to our veterans and fallen comrades for their contributions and sacrifices. As a government, we sincerely appreciate your service and are ready to do everything possible to continue supporting you in the discharge of your constitutional responsibilities.
President Tinubu said he is convinced that as a Service, they will remain committed to the highest standards of discipline and professionalism in the utilization of these platforms to address current and future security challenges.
The President commended the Chief of the Air Staff and his team for innovatively leveraging strategic partnership with the Great Mind Event Management Dubai and other local and international sponsors to host this event.
Aerial display and Parades are significant parts of military tradition, which demonstrate the military’s professional capabilities and combat readiness, while also strengthening the bond between the military and the civilians they serve.
