The significance of celebrating Children especially on their special day "Children's Day" is to demonstrate commitment to creating a better world for future generations.
This was brought to display at the DEPOWA children’s day celebration 2024, which took place at the Aguyi Ironsi Cantonment, Abuja where Obideyi David from POWA School came 1st position of the Spelling Bee while Gandu Kriyet from DEPOWA and Imaam Adenekan from NAOWA schools became 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. For the Match past competition, Army Day Secondary School, Mogadishu came first position, while NOWA and NAFOWA came 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
In her remarks, the President, Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa stressed that Childrenspppp0 Day is a day that remind parents of the importance of nurturing, guiding and empowering younger ones to grow into compassionate, curious and innovative individuals.
"As we celebrate the joys of childhood, let us acknowledge the challenges and struggles that many children face, let us renew our commitment to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all children to thrive.
"As we celebrate this children’s day today, I am reminded of the incredible potentials and limitless opportunities that each and every one of you holds within. You are the future leaders, innovators and change makers of our world and it fills me with hope and joy to see your bright faces here today. Remember to cherish your childhood, embrace your dreams and always believe in yourselves.
"We celebrate your curiosity, creativity and boundless energy. May this day be filled with laughter, fun, and memories that will last a life time. Keep exploring, learning and growing. You are future leaders and change makers of tomorrow". She added
Mrs Musa said, according to the first President of South Africa His Excellency Nelson Mandela, he stated that” History will judge us by the difference we make in everyday lives of children” therefore, I want to urge every parent and guardian here today, to create a safe environment that is free from anger and conflict thereby being great mentors to our children.
He expressed gratitude to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Founder of Renewed Hope Initiative, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, for her motherly inspiration and continuous guidance.
She appreciated the chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for his invaluable support and encouragement for being the driving force of her mission and vision in DEPOWA.
Mrs Musa also appreciated the efforts and commitments of all the Wives of Services chiefs and the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Members of the organizing committee, her supporting staff.
