The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has today, 18th March, 2024 presented cheques worth N1.5billion to the families of police officers who died in active serving and sacrifice their lives between 2018/2019, 2020/2021 and 2022/2023.
He doled out the cheques to 727 beneficiaries at the Force Headquarters in Abuja under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme package of the Nigeria Police Force.
Giving a breakdown on how the Cheques would be disburse to families of the departed Police officers, IGP Egbetokun said, the Cheques will be disbursed in five distinct categories, that is, Cheque of 55.7million Naira to 311 beneficiaries for remaning Life assurance balance for the year 2021/ 2022, and Cheques of 761 million Naira to 178 beneficiaries for the 15 and 17 batches of Life Assurance 2021/2022.
Others are, Cheques of 567million to 78 beneficiaries of a full life assurance policy payment for the year 2022/2023, also, 96.8millistato 86 beneficiaries for batch 5 of the year 2018/ 2019 and lastly, 113.2million Naira for the 100% full payment for 100 beneficiaries 2022/ 2023.
IGP Egbetokun noted that so far, a total sum of 3 billion Naira have been disbursed 2514 families of departed police officers which stands as a testament to the unwavering leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to protect the welfare of its personnel.
The Inspector General of Police extolled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for making police welfare a priority of his administration and by ensuring the judicious release of premium for deceased officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
He similarly emphasized the commitment of his administration to sustaining efforts at ensuring that insurance payments and other welfare benefits are promptly disbursed to beneficiaries.”
Mr Chibuzor Onyebuchi, one of the beneficiaries thanked the Inspector General of Police, DIGs, and Force Insurance Department for their support.
