Edo Gov Election: INEC Publishes Candidates’ Personal Particulars

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday 30th March 2024 published the personal particulars (also known as Form EC9) and credentials of 17 nominated candidates and their deputies for the Edo State Governorship election at its State headquarters, Benin and 18 local government offices in the State. This is line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The Commission had, in a press statement dated Wednesday 27th March and endorsed by Mr. Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), announced that 17 political parties successfully uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms by the deadline of 6pm on 24th March when the dedicated portal automatically shut down.

The statement also affirmed that the personal particulars of the Governorship candidates and their running mates would be published a week from the submission of nominations (30th March).

The Commission urged Nigerians to scrutinize the documents. Any aspirant that participated in his or her party primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by the nominated candidate is false can also challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The Edo State Governorship election is scheduled for Saturday 21st September 2024.
