About 3400 Refugees Internally Displaced Persons, Migrants And Asylum Seekers taking refuge at Durumi Abuja Centre Camp, have benefited from food items donated by the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association DEPOWA.
This gesture is aimed at cushioning the effect of the hardship caused by the Boko Haram Insurgency, and bandits attacks in eight States home to millions of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association DEPOWA, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa who led members of the association to the Camp today, Thursday 2024 noted that the gestcentredered on reaffirming DEPOWA's commitmentservingerve all citizens, especially the most vulnerable in the society.
She added that it is a way of reaching out to the populace, "we celebrated the spouses of our fallen heroes during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Celebration at Port Harcourt, Yenagoa and environs.
"Therefore, we are here to celebrate and honour the internally displaced persons. It is important to state that the plight of our internally displaced persons serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of conflict and displacement on innocent lives. It is a sobering reality that compels us to act with urgency and humanity.
"Our duty goes beyond mere distribution of aid rather, it is about restoring dignity, providing comfort, and offering a glimmer of hope amid despair. Accordingly, as we witness the gratitude and relief on the faces of those receiving these palliatives, let us be reminded of the power of compassion to heal wounds and restore faith in humanity.
Mrs Musa who thanked Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her Renewed Hope Initiative towards humanity and the upliftment of women and children out of poverty, reassured DEPOWA's commitment to strengthen the welfare of the families of internally displaced persons, urged them to continue to stand united and be rest assured that the Armed Forces is doing everything possible to integrate them with their families and communities.
She pledged to sustain humanitarian support to all displaced persons in the state and those living within host communities.
Addressing journalists, the Coordinator and spokesman, Mr Idris Ibrahim Alulu thanked the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association for spreading the love to the camp, especially during this period.
