How IGP-SIS Recorded Groundbreaking Successes with Arrest of 139 Criminals, Rescue of 154 Hostages within 2 weeks After Launch

Over the past six days, men of the Nigeria Police Force have made significant arrests across the country, sending a clear message that they will never relenting in their commitment to making crime an unpalatable pursuit for those who seek to disrupt the peace of Nigeria.

SpyeTV News observed that the additional tactical deployments of both human and material resources to troubled areas are rapidly heralding normalcy as, Police joint operations with the Nigerian military, local vigilantes and other security operatives in January have led to the rescue of quite several kidnap victims across the country, who have all been reunited with their families. 

The recent launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun,has further bolstered the security architecture of the FCT leading to the arrest of 139 suspects, recovery of 3 GPR Chargers, 2 AK-47 rifles, 1 Type-06, 4 locally fabricated guns, 1 Berretta pistol, 2 Makarov pistols, 4 locally fabricated pump action guns, 504 pieces of AK-47 ammunition, 100 pieces of AA ammunition, as well as the rescue of 154 kidnapped victims unhurt.

Parading the suspects in Abuja on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said prominent among the recent successes recorded is the interception of a group of persons along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway who were major suppliers of arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Niger, Zamfara, and Kaduna States. 

In a more recent event, in the early hours of Friday 26th January, 2024, men of the IGP-SIS engaged some armed bandits within the FCT-Kaduna axis in a fierce gun battle and neutralised 3 of them including their gang leader, one Mai-Gemu (aka Gadoro). It is crystal clear that with this operation, the gang and its camp have been destroyed.

The IGP-SIS operatives on the 21st of January 2024 arrested 2 major gun-running kingpins who had been supplying locally fabricated arms and various types of ammunition to several assailants operating in the North-Central region of the country. The squad also arrested 2 kidnappers in the Jikwoyi area of the FCT and recovered several arms and ammunition from them after overwhelming the gang in a gun battle which also led to the rescue of their kidnapped victim.

Rescue Of Kidnapped Victims: 

On 6/01/2024 Along Ogwogo/Opi Road, Enugu State, Kidnappers Accosted A Car Coming From Nsukka, Personnel Of 76pmf On Pin Down In Front Of Their Base Led By One DSP Peter Adokwu Confronted The Criminals, Engaged Them In A Fire Duel Which Led To The Rescue Of 3 Kidnapped Victims. While One Of Our Operatives Sustained Bullet Injuries In The Crossfire.

Foiled Kidnapping Attempt:

On 7/01/2024 Armed Terrorists In Their Numbers Attacked Wurma Village, Kurfi Lga Of Katina State To Kidnap The Residents Of The Village But Were Strongly Repelled   By Men Of The Force Who Were Deployed To The Area.

Rescue Of Kidnapped Victims: 

On 7/01/2024 Armed Terrorists Blocked Sheme/Kankara Road By Mararaba Village, Faskari Lga In Kano State And Opened Fire On A Moving Golf 3 Wagon With Reg No. Jeg834 Xa And Abducted Passengers Of The Vehicle. Joint Operatives Comprising Of Police And Military Personnel Combed The Scene, Engaged The Hoodlums In A Fierce Gun Battle And Rescued All The 4 Passengers Unhurt, While One Soldier Who Was Also On Transit Sustained Gunshot Wound While Efforts Are Being Intensified To Locate One  Sakina Ahmed ‘f’ 25yr Who Is The Only Gang Member Who Escaped.

Arrest Of Kidnappers And Rescue Of Kidnapped Victims:

On 7/01/2024 At About 2000hrs A Group Of Armed Bandicts Attacked Baure Village In Kankara Lga, Kastina State, Injured 3 Persons, Rustled Over 200 Animals And Kidnapped Some People. Upon Receipt, Police Operatives Rushed To The Scene, Engaged The Hoodlums In A Gun Battle Where 7 Of Them Were Killed, All The Kidnapped Victims Were Rescued Unhurt And The Hoodlums Were Forced To Release The Rustled Animals And Also A Bajaj Motorcycle.

Rescue Of Kidnapped Victims: 0n 13/1/2024 About 1743hrs Distress Call Was Received That An Eighteen (18) Seater Bus With Reg No Awk 53 Zw Coming From Owerri To Port Harcourt Was Attacked By Unknown Gun Men Between Umuanwa/Ubima Road Before Customs Check Point, Police Operatives Immediately Moved To The Scene And Engaged The Kidnappers Where 10 Victims Were Rescued And Reunited With Their Families.

Hostage Rescue And Apprehension Of Kidnappers: 

On 16/01/2024 At About 1145hrs, Following A Credible Intelligence A Team Of Joint Operatives Stormed A Kidnapper Hideout At Orokam Forest In Benue State, The Kidnappers Upon Sighting The Team Engaged Them In A Gun Duel, One Of The Kidnappers Was Fatally Wounded And His Ak49 Rifle With Breach No 955860, Loaded With 7 Rounds Of Ammunition Was Recovered. Ten (10) Victims Held Hostage Were Rescued While 2 Kidnappers Were Arrested One Zekeri Yaro Moina ‘m’ Aged 20yrs And Ayaro Nafar Aged 23 Yrs Both From Kogi State. They Were Both Identified By The Victims As Associates Of The Kidnappers And They Frequently Visited Them In The Forest.

Rescue Of Kidnapped Victims: 

On 19/01/2023 At About 0208hrs Armed Men Numbering 20 Invaded The Compound Of One Ardo Yaya ‘m’ In Taraba State, Abducted Him And His 2 Sons, One Aliyu Ardo Yaya And Abbas Ardo, His Neighbour One Baban Abdall Sani To Unknown Destination. Upon Receipt, Operatives Swung Into Action, Pursued The Hoodlums Towards Rivers Larmorde Leading To The Rescue Of All The Abducted Victims.

Arrest Of Kidnapper And Recovery Of N2.25 Million Naira  Ransom: 

On The 20/01/2024 At About 2200hrs, A Patrol Team In Kaduna Led By Their Dpo Raided A Target Location In Tafa Town And Arrested One Bello Muhammad ‘m’ 28 Yrs From Zamfara And Found In His Possession The Sum Of N2.25 Million Naira Only. Upon Interrogation, The Suspect Confessed To Being A Kidnapper And The Said Sum Was Proceeds Gotten From A Kidnapping Operation. Suspect Offered The Dpo The Sum Of One Million Naira As Inducement For His Release Which The Dpo Declined. Further Investigation And Profiling Revealed Pictures Of Suspect With Arms In An Unknown Bush.

Foiled Self-kidnapping Plot: 

On The 22/01/2024 At About 1930 Hrs, One Hamza Abubakar ‘m’ Of Agwada, Nasarawa State Reported The Kidnap Of His Sister, One Rahina Abubakar ‘f’ By Unknown Men. After Series Of Negotiations Which Later Settled At One Hundred Thousand Naira Only, The Complainant On The Same Date At About 2200hrs Took The Agreed Sum To The Agreed Location And Was Met By The Alleged Kidnapped Sister Who Came Out To Collect The Money. Upon Realization Of The Failed Self-kidnapping Plot, She Was Immediately Arrested.

Rescue Of Kidnapped Victims:  

On 24/01/2024  At About 0530hrs, Acting On Actionable Intelligence, Combined Team Of Police Operatives From Anti-kidnapping Unit Of The Command Rubochi Division   In Conjunction With Vigilantes And Hunters On Rescue Mission  Stormed Bandits/Kidnapper's Camp Located At Ukya Village Via Nasarawa State Bordering Fct Hoodlums On Sighting The Team   Engaged Them In A Serious Gun Duel   They Were Overpowered And Fled Scene Into The Nearby Forest With Bullet Wounds   Fourteen (14)  Hostages Were Rescued Unhurt   They Have Since Been Reunited With Their Families And Friends.

Foiled Kidnapping Attempt And Arrest Of Kidnappers: 

On 24/01/2024 At About 0400 Hours Suspected Members Of Kidnappers  Stormed The House Of One Alh Ardo 'm' Of Tadangara Village Via Fika Lga, Yobe State With Sophisticated Weapons Including Ak 47 Rifles Demanding For Money Or They Will Kidnap  The Family   A Distress Call Was Put To Police In Ndunbulwa Outstation Fika Lga  Where They Immediately Mobilized Including Vigilante Due To Rough And Dangerous Terrain To The Scene On Reaching The House, The Kidnappers Engaged Them In A Shootout But Were Overpowered By Police.  Four Of The Kidnappers Escaped   While One Of Them Was Arrested With  His Ak 47 Rifle With Two Live Ammunition Recovered Upon Interrogation He Disclosed His Name As Idrissa Umaru 42yrs From Neighbouring Gombe State. He Also Gave Vital Information About His Fleeing Accomplices And Efforts Are Being Intensified To Apprehend Them.

Foiled Bank Robbery: 

On 18/01/2024 At About 0900hrs, Salisu Bukar Boka And Hasan Shunka All ‘m’ Of Rijiyar Lemo Were Arrested By The A Police Personnel On Duty At Zenith Bank Murtala Mohd Way Branch Where They Had Entered And Stole The Sum Of N2.5million Naira And Were On Their Way Coming Out.

Arrest Of Armed Robbery Syndicate: 

At About 2040hrs Of 05/01/24, Some Unknown Hoodlums Later Identified As Members Of A Robbery Syndicate Terrorising Motorists Along Ibadan/Ife Expressway Intercepted One Akeem Abdulamin And Attacked Him And Subsequently Dispossessed Him Of His Valuables Including Phones  Cash And Finally Carted Away His Sienna Space Bus. 

A Team Of Operatives Attached To The Command Monitoring Unit Commenced A Painstaking Investigation Immediately And   Arrested One Jimoh Shuaib And Six Other Members Of The Gang At Different Hideouts In Oyo, Kwara And Osun States and During Interrogations, The Suspects Confessed To The Crime And To A Series Of Similar Robbery Operations They Had Masterminded In The Past Especially Along Highways.  

Suspects Also Mentioned One Wasiu Yusuf And Five Others As Receivers Of Any Item Robbed By Them And The Team Went For Them Picked Them All And Recovered From Them The Reported Snatched Sienna Space Bus And Four Other Vehicles.   

The Inspector-General of Police, while reiterating that the SIS will be launched beyond the FCT to other states across the country for effective security management in the country, has ordered the tactical deployment of several operatives of the IGP-SIS to areas within the FCT still grappling with security breaches to combat every form of criminality that might surface.
