Army Denounces Ahoada/Abua Axis Attack on Expatriates, Troops as An Unwarranted Act of Violence

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the incident that unfolded on the Ahoada/Abua axis of the East-West road in Rivers State, gunmen ambushed a convoy belonging to an engineering company, leaving a trail of devastation, denouncing it as an unwarranted act of violence. 

Maj. Danjuma, the Acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division, Army Public Relations Officer, issued a statement attributing the attack to suspected militants. 

The attack occurred at approximately 9:30 am as the company was transporting its workers to a camp in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, leading to the tragic deaths of four soldiers and two civilian drivers. In a chilling turn of events, two expatriates identified as Koreans were abducted during the ambush. 

The assailants, suspected to be kidnappers, strategically targeted the convoy, opening fire on its occupants and causing panic and gridlock in the surrounding area. 

According to Maj. Danjuma, the assailants, believed to be militants, attacked the troops at Emesu junction along the Amungboro-Emuphan road. 

Tragically, four soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty, and two oil workers are currently unaccounted for. The suspected militants reportedly fled through Emesu waterside, utilizing the Orashi River as their escape route. 

Troops are actively combing the general area to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act. Maj.-Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, expressed deep condolences for the lives lost and condemned the attack. 

He assured the public that relentless efforts are ongoing to bring the criminals to justice. In light of this incident, the public is urged to provide credible and actionable intelligence that can aid in the arrest of the criminals responsible for this senseless act. 

The commitment of the troops to eliminate all forms of criminal activities within the Niger Delta region, including militancy, oil theft, and pipeline vandalism, remains resolute.
