The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, says the Nigerian Army will be deliberate in its efforts to enhance both operational capabilities and the welfare of its personnel through various forms of relevant developmental projects that appeal to building a lethal force that is combat effective.
Lt General Lagbaja said this today 14 November 2023 at the remodelling and commissioning of newly constructed Clubhouse for the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club at the Shehu Musa Yar'adua Barracks Asokoro Abuja.
The game of golf is fast becoming a part of the Nigerian Army, and the era of considering it the preserve of some elite few is fast fading away.
General Lagbaja noted that the Army Headquarters will sustain its focus on enhancing the Nigerian Army's administrative standard by constructing infrastructures and remodeling existing ones to meet international standards.
"My resolve to make Sound Administration a critical component of my Command Philosophy as Chief of Army Staff is deliberate. I perfectly understand that a total man possesses a sound mind in a sound body, and sports keep body and soul together.
As the Grand Patron of the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club, I feel so proud of our modest achievement in 6 years of existence of this course. I consider the completion and furnishing of this Clubhouse a manifestation of the tireless efforts andv ision of the founding fathers of this golf course, carried onto fruition by the current generation. I therefore salute the courage and drive of both the past and present leadership of this club.
General Lagbaja noted that today, across big cantonments and barracks, provision is being made for the construction of golf courses opened to our officers,men, and civilians alike.
He said today's commissioning marks the beginning of a new chapter in golfing in the Nigerian Army, as this clubhouse will further enhance the status rating of this golf course.
There is no doubt that patience, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence, all attributes of the game of golf, have brought us thus far.
He therefore congratulated the management, past and present, and members of the Club for their drive, dedication, and selflessness towards building this success story.
"Your passion for the game of golf has brought us where we are currently, and I am optimistic that with your sustained commitment, this course will soon commence hosting international tournaments."he said
In his remarks, the Captain of the Club, Major General Samson Jiya thanked the Grand Patron, management and members of TYB Golf Country Club for their commitment and being part of the community of golfers.
He added, that the Course will be a haven for golfers seeking to improve their skills, socialize and create lasting memories.
