The Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru and Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle have pledged that the Federal Government will do all within its powers to support the Nigerian Army, especially through interventions in provision of accommodation, manpower, logistics and combat enablers to enhance personnel's morale and operational efficiency in mitigating security challenges across the country.
In a separate remarks, Badaru and Matawalle disclosed this after receiving a brief on the operational engagements of the Nigerian Army NA on Tuesday 24 October 2023, during their maiden familiarization visit to the Army Headquarters, Abuja.
The Ministers, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, added that the ministry had taken note of the challenges confronting the military, adding that efforts would be made to address them.
In his remarks, Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru assured the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja the president would give the Army the needed support to strengthen their operations.
He urged the Nigerian Army to sustain the ongoing tempo witnessed across the various theatres of operations until peace returns to many parts of the country.
"We are aware of the equipment, combat enabler, a manpower need among others that will enable you to effectively combat oil theft, and insurgency among others.
"The FG will provide what you need to bring an end to insecurity. The president will do it. He has never denied our requests. But we must continue to show results. You have done fantastically well. Continue to do your best till peace returns. "he stressed
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle called on Nigerians to appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of the military and security agencies, who give their all in protecting the nation. Matawalle also urged the public to support officers and men of the Armed Forces as they perform their statutory function of protecting the citizenry.
He added, that the NA approach to ending insecurity should be all-of-society approach, stressing that Non-Kinectic approach will facilitate holistic decisions, to enhance peace and tranquility in the country.
The Minister of State also advocated for intelligence sharing among security agencies in the country to enhance ongoing operations.
In his word, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja pledged to sustain the current onslaught on insurgents and other criminal elements.
He said, "The visible intervention of the government has impacted positively our operations. We will keep the momentum and ensure we defeat insecurity. "
