Major General Buba Takes Over as Director Defence Media Operations

The 23rd Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja has appointed Major General ES Buba the Director, Defence Media Operations of the Defence Headquarters, Abuja. 

The appointment and redeployment was announced recently in a major shake up  of Major Generals, and Brigadier Generals amongst several other senior officers across NA formations and units in the country in continuation of the effort to rejig the Nigerian Army ( NA) towards ensuring administrative and operational efficiency, having assumed command.

Major General ES Buba was the Director Foreign Liaison (DFL), Defence Intelligence Agency(DIA) which is the primary military intelligence agency of Nigeria. The DIA was established in 1986 to provide an efficient system of obtaining military intelligence for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence.

The DIA promotes Nigeria's Defence Policy, enhances military cooperation with other countries, protects the lives of Nigerian citizens, and maintains the territorial integrity of Nigeria. The DIA is headed by the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) who is appointed by the President of Nigeria.

Major General ES Buba now as Director, Defence Media Operations is for coordinating joint information management on peacekeeping and other combat operations of the Nigerian troops.

The Directorate is tasked with the sole responsibility of disseminating information on Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies during special operations. The Directorate will restrict its mandates to analyzing information on combat and peacekeeping operations, while strategically and tactically liaising with critical stakeholders.

It is imperative to note that redeployment in the Nigerian Army is routine, particularly with the recent retirement of some senior officers as a result of the appointment of the new Army leadership. The redeployments take effect from 3 July 2023.
