JUST IN: Nigeria Police Force Disband Edo Police Officers Who Ran Van Over Handcuffed Man

In a bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some Police Officers attached to the Edo State Police Command who were responsible for running over a citizen at Ekpoma, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has taken the decisive action of disbanding the team forthwith. 

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a press sattement on Thursday, noted that this step aims to regularize and standardize police operations in the axis; and restore public trust in the Police Force. 

He added that, the operatives involved are currently facing disciplinary charges and administrative procedures. 

"This move underscores the commitment of the IGP to hold officers accountable for their actions which will never be tolerated in the Nigeria Police Force. 

"The Inspector-General of Police reiterates his commitment to ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, while urging members of the public to always cooperate with Police Officers in the discharge of their statutory duties." he stressed. 

SpyeTV News reports that there was pandemonium in the university town of Ekpoma in the Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State on Thursday evening as a team of police officers with their official vehicle ran over a handcuffed middle-aged man.

The handcuffed man, from a video calculating on social media on Friday, was seen lying down in front of the van. While some people engaged the policemen in a discussion, the driver of the police van drove away in a panic running over the man and dragging him along the road for a few metres.

The incident generated uproar from the crowd, but the angry crowd was quickly dispersed by gunshots from the policemen.

According to a statement by the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the policemen have been arrested.
