The Nigerian Army Personnel have been urged to maintain constant training at all level of command in order to defeat adversaries, to continue to train and re-train if they want to maintain mastery in the art of war to combat the unconventional dimension of Nigeria current security challenges.
Major General Musa Auwal Etu-Ndagi, the Special Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of Guards Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition for Year 2023 at Lungi Barracks gave this charge while declaring the long week event closed in Abuja on Thursday.
The Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers are often referred to as the breach between the Officers and soldiers" of the Nigerian Army as they are the most visible group that instill discipline within the lower cadre of the military.
General Etu-Ndagi said the personnel are primarily responsible and combat training for grooming the soldiers therefore, their training must include leadership and combat training activities.
He said it is pertinent to mentioned that personnel role has been changing due to the nature of threats Nigeria has been faced with over time - especially terrorism and in recognition of the role: Warrant Officers and Senior Non- Commissioned Officers serve as enablers for mission success in the Nigerian Army.
He noted that it is therefore necessary to improve their professional skills and empower them to execute their roles efficiently. It is also paramount to enhance their confidence through robust training that will adequately prepare them to confront contemporary challenges which are dynamic in nature.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commander Guards Brigade, Brig Gen AM Umar noted that the competition featured Weapons handling, Obstacle course, map reading, drills and swimming.
He said the competition is the second in the series for the year 2023 which is designed to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and therefore congratulated all participants for exhibiting and showcasing a high standard of discipline and alertness of units under the Brigade.
SpyeTV News reports that the participating units are Blue Tally 7 Guard's Battalion located in Lungi Barracks, Maitama, Green Tally 176 Guard's Battalion Gwagwalada FCT Abuja, Red tally 177 Guards Battalion Keffi, Nasarawa state, Yellow tally 102 Guard's Battalion located in Suleja Niger state and the Guards Brigade Garrison located in Mambilla Barracks, Asokoro Abuja in which 177 battalion became winner of the 2023 Guards Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition.
The Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition is to enhance troops physical fitness, combat survival, inculcate team spirit and boost their self confidence in front of adversaries and empower them to professionally defeat them.
