Nigerian Military Marks CISM Day Run 2023 With A Call For Global Peace

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) today 18 February joined its counterparts  around the world to celebrate  the  International Military Sports Council ( CISM) Day Run in Aguiyi Ironsi Military Cantonment, Abuja.

CISM Day Run is an annual sporting event  well participated  by member countries in commemoration of the anniversary of the International Military Sports body, aimed at emplacing bonds and already existing esprit- de- corps amongst members of the AFN and other security agencies.

In a remark at the occasion,  the Chief of Defence  Staff ( CDS), General Lucky Irabor, represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Jackson Yusuf stated that  the CISM was founded in 1879 shortly after the World War to promote global peace and unity after the ravage of the war. 

He further said that  the Council has about 140 member countries which promote friendship through sports. He therefore  urged member countries   to strive and maintain global peace, sustain the momento and gallantly march towards victory.

Continuing, the Nigerian Defence Chief  revealed that Nigeria joined the Council in 1972 and has since  participated annually in the event.

General Irabor used the occasion to call on the Armed Forces of Nigeria to stand up to its constitutional responsibilities particularly, during  the forthcoming general elections.  He  congratulated  all participants at the day run for a successful and safe outing.

The sporting exercise which had a route capacity of 5-km covered by the participants who chose to walk or jog was well attended by  representatives of  Service Chiefs, members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,  Nigeria  Police, Immigration Service,   Custom Service , National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency among  other security agencies.
