Gunmen on Wednesday reportedly shot to death Monday Idoko, the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ohofia Agba Ward in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Idoko was shot on the head at his Onueke village in Ohofia-Agba community at about 11:00pm.
A family source who confirmed the incident to Leadership Newspaper, said that the gunmen entered the village and went to the victim’s house, dragged him out while he was sleeping and shot him in the head.
“My brother, the story is very traumatic. It was a family member that alerted me that some unknown armed persons came to their house just before midnight, broke in and dragged him out before shooting him in the head.
“They wanted to rush him to the hospital but he died in the village. We have been in mourning mood since last night,” the family source was quoted as saying.
Also speaking on the incident, an APGA supporter in the area who hidden identity said that the murdered ward chairman was busy making arrangements for a rescheduled visit to the area by the Ebonyi State APGA governorship candidate, Prof. Benard Odoh, before he was killed.
Recall that the APGA governorship candidate’s convoy was attacked by gunmen a few weeks ago near the same Agba where his driver and a Police Inspector were killed and others injured.
However, till the time of filing this report, the police authority in the state has not made an official statement about the incident. Also, calls made to the phone number of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chris Anyanwu, did not go through as the number was said not be reachable.
Meanwhile, gunmen numbering not fewer than 15 reportedly attacked the campaign convoy of the Enugu governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji Nwakibie.
The gunmen attacked Nwakibie on Wednesday evening in Agbani community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state where they opened fire on the convoy as they drove by.
It was gathered that while the assailants kept shooting in an attempt to kill Nwakibie, the police orderlies in the convoy were quick to respond and engaged the attackers, killing one of the assailants.
