Anita Pointer from the Grammy-winning group, Pointer Sisters, has died of cancer at the age 74.
The group, whose string of hits in the 1970s and 1980s included I’m So Excited, Jump (For My Love) and Fire, was surrounded by family at her Beverly Hills, LA home when she died on Saturday, December 31.
Anita was the second oldest of four sisters, who shot to fame with their disco-style hits. Her sisters, June and Bonnie, who were also in the group passed away several years ago.
Her family said they were deeply saddened by her death. “She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long. Her love of our family will live on in each of us. Heaven is a more loving beautiful place with Anita there,” they said in a statement.

Anita’s life had been shrouded in grief after her only child, Jada Pointer, died aged just 37 in 2003. She went on to look after her granddaughter, Roxie McKain Pointer.
In their statement, the family said: “While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June and Bonnie and at peace.”
