The Nigerian Military and United Nations have said that there's the need to bring all relevant Agencies together in other to collaborate toward providing humanitarian assistance and empowerment to the IDPs.
This was disclosed when the Deputy Theatre Commander OPHK, Major General MS Ahmed on behalf of the Theatre Commander OPHK, Major General CG Musa received in audience the UN Special Adviser on Solutions for IDPs, Mr Louis Hoffman at the Theater Command Headquarters in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Louis Hoffman thanked the Theatre Commander for the warm reception accorded them and
While commending the Nigerian Government and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation, the Special Adviser also pointed that these he believed will facilitate the returns of the IDPs to their ancestral homes
Thereafter, he disclosed that he is in the North East, Nigeria on behalf of the UN Secretary General to assess the condition of the Internally Displaced Persons ( IDPs ) with the sole aim of providing succour to them.
Additionally, Mr Louis stated that there are 60 millions IDPs currently in the world and with the recent climate change across the globe, there is likely going to be an increment especially in Nigeria with the recent flood that has displaced so many locals from their ancestral homes.
In his response, Major General MS Ahmed on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Officers and Men of OPHK welcomed the Special Adviser to UN and his team to HQs Theatre Command and thereafter extended the Theatre Commander's commendation to the UN in their efforts to bringing succour to the IDPs in the North East Nigeria.
Furthermore, Major General Ahmed stated that the Command of OPHK in collaboration with the State Government and other Agencies is doing alot in the empowerment of the IDPs.
While assuring the UN of the Theatre's continuous support and collaboration, he also urged them to create awareness campaign on climate change for the locals and also look into the causal factors leading to the displacement of the affected persons ( IDPs ).
This is part of the Non-kinetic efforts of Operation HADIN KAI ( OPHK ) to restore peace and normalcy and also revive the socio-economic activities of North East Nigeria.
