Breaking: IGP Decorates New DIGs Dandaura Mustapha, Sadiq Bello, Unveils Logo and Mascot For 13th Biennial Police Games

The Inspector General of Police IGP Alkali Usman Baba on Thursday, promoted the newly appointed Dandaura Mustapha, AIG Zone 4, Makurdi to fill the vacant position of DIG, Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB)

According to him, Mr Dandaura, whose appointment takes effect from 20 October will be replacing Mr Sadiq who is expected to retire from the service on the said date.

IGP Decorates newly promoted DIGs, DIG Sadiq Bello and DIG Mustapha Dandaura, mni, today at his Force Headquarters Office, Abuja. The IGP was assited by his DIGs and members of the Force Management Team.

The Police Service Commission had in September appointed the promotion of 12 commissioners of police (CPs) to the next rank of AIG.

In the meantime, the IGP has unveiled the logo and mascot for the 13th Biennial Police Games, tagged "Uyo 2022". 

The unveiling ceremony which took place at the Goodluck Jonathan Peace keeping Conference hall in Abuja, with the theme of this year's Biennial Police Games is  Promoting Sporting excellence towards ensuring fitness for operational exigencies and combat readiness" is expected to start on the 23rd till 30th November. 2022.

In his remarks, the Inspector General of Police said, Police games has become a valued component in the history of the police and impact over the years has been most acknowledged. It also provides an opportunity for officers of the force to maintain their mental alertness and physical fitness, which are critical elements that are required to police and security space that remains increasingly challenging.

Baba said, beyond these, the games provide a unique opportunity to strengthen the bond of espirit de corps amongst security agents, and identify sporting talents most of whom will emerge as stars in the global sporting stage.

The IGP similarly appreciated the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and people of the State for accepting to host the Games in the beautiful, colourful, friendly, transformed city of Uyo, and for assuring participants of nothing but the best in terms of hospitality and warmth.

The Inspector-General of Police expressed hopes that police athletes will shatter long standing records at the Games even as he tasked the Chairman and Sole Administrator of the Force Sports Planning Committee and his team to deliver a sporting spectacle never before witnessed in the history of the Nigeria Police Force.

In his remarks, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Udom ably represented by the Senior Special Adviser SSA on Sport, Mr Paul Bassey reassured the Nigeria Police Force Athletes of state-of-the-art new Eket 18,000-seater stadium recently commissioned, and ready for use. 

Bassey said that the sports center which comes with a football pitch, tartan tracks, basketball and tennis courts, among others, is being constructed with the best standard facilities and specifications, adding that the major equipment and facilities for the edifice was imported from the best producers in the global sports industry.

Governor Udom promised a fulfilled experience in Uyo during and after the 13th Biennial Police Games.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman Sport Planning Committee and Force Headquarters Secretary, AIG M I Hafiz thanked the IGP who has not only worked with the past predecessors, but has solid foundation with greater zeal, and passion.

"You have provided funding, effective leadership, coordinated supervision and personal examples, exodus Athletes putting orders to fly high, we thanked the IGP", he said

Dignitaries at the event were principals staff officers of the Nigeria Police, representatives from Military, Commodore Richard Shammah. Director Sport Nigerian Navy, Group Captain Magnus Abanum from Nigerian Air Force, Samuel Oladimeji Onikekun from Nigeria Custom Service, Police Trust Fund, among Others.
