The Chief of Defence Staff General Lucky Irabor has tasked Winners of just concluded 2022 Armed Forces Inter-Service Sports Competition to improve on Winning More Medals, especially as they represent the Armed Forces of Nigeria at World Military Sports Championship in Beja, Portugal.
The Defence Chief said this at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Armed Forces Inter-Service Sports Competition where Nigerian Army won the overall first position at the competition with the highest mark of 840, while Nigerian Navy had 571 placed 2nd while Nigerian Airforce had 480 emerges 3rd respectively.
General Irabor who was ably represented by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao encouraged all participants to sustain one form of sports or the other as the resultant effects are enormous.
"I congratulate everyone that participated and particularly for those that won medals. It is one thing to win medals and another to hold unto the medals won. For those that did not win, there are always opportunities to prove yourselves. I congratulate you all.
"I will therefore encourage you to hold unto these medals as well as improve on winning more medals in subsequent competitions and games particularly at the forthcoming World Military Sports Championship in Beja, Portugal", he said.
General Irabor noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria has continued to evolve in joint training with emphasis placed on physical training and sports in general. 'It is my belief therefore, that continuity and sustainability of this level of training and competition, coupled with ongoing reequipping of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, we will develop the required capacity to overcome the security challenges that confront us today and in the future', he added.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd )for his tremendous support to the operational and welfare needs of the AFN and for the quality leadership and guidance he provides for the AFN.
The CDS appreciate the Service Chiefs for their cooperation in the ongoing counter insurgency operations.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) represented by Mr Sunday Attah commended the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff at providing the necessary platform and resourceful organization of this inter service Sports Competition.
"On the whole, the efforts made at putting together this sports fiesta is laudable and I therefore look forward to seeing our service personnel brought together to mutually interreact and compete under cordial sporting atmosphere as we have just had.
He urged all personnel not to rest on your oars as you remain loyal, patriotic and committed to your oath of allegiance to defend the territorial integrity of our dear nation, Nigeria.
General Magashi commended all the competing athletes for the efforts they have put into winning laurels for their various Armed Services. Specifically, I congratulate the athletes that have distinguished themselves by winning individual prizes during this sports competition.
The 2022 Armed Forces Inter-Service Sports Competition which commenced about 5 days ago at this football complex ended with winners from three services.

The Nigerian Airforce FC player Lance Corporal Hamza Abdullahi and Sergeant Benjamin Bulus scored the 2 goals on Monday footbal match against Nigerian Navy FC, while on Tuesday match, Nigerian Air Force FC player ACM Oladosu Kehinde score one goal against Nigerian Army, and finally on Thursday, the Nigerian Army FC Lcpl Labaran Isah, Pte Shuaibu Garba and Cpl Lucky Okon on a revenge mission scored 3 goals against Nigerian Navy FC. The Overall winner of the football match was indefeatable Nigerian Air Force FC.
