The Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) have successfully matriculated 333 students after a successful screening and registration.
The fourth matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students of the 2022/2023 Academic Session was held on Friday, 3rd June 2022.
The matriculation was to induct new students into the University, swear them on an oath of good behaviour and allegiance and formally admit them into the University as bonafide Students with all rights and obligations.
Declaring the ceremony open, the Vice Chancellor Professor Kyari Mohammed expressed that the University was conceived and based on the good ethos and values of the Nigerian Army, which are discipline, orderliness and respect for constituted authority, as well as the universal values of the university; which is the freedom to hold and profess divergent opinions.
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor said a university that cohabits on these philosophies would be built.
Prof Kyari affirmed that the Nigerian Army University Biu has zero-tolerance for unethical and immoral behaviour, adding that the rod will not be spared on anyone who tests the will of the University.
On the same note, The Vice Chancellor disclose that the University would not tolerate examination malpractice, cultism, occultic practices, sexual harassment and violence of any sort.
The Registrar Brig Gen SS Ibrahim administered the matriculating students the matriculation oath. Afterwards, he congratulated the enrolled students as they have become bonafide students of the Nigerian Army University Biu.
Meanwhile, The student affairs division has organised a general orientation exercise for newly admitted students for the 2022/2023 academic season.
In his welcome address, the Dean of student affairs, Mr Yahaya Abdulkadir, said the orientation is intended to bring the students up to par with the standards required of them by the University because of their academics and behaviour.
He urged the students to take the exercises serious as they can shape their academic experience for the better or the worst.
The university's Registrar, Brig Gen SS Ibrahim, called on the students to listen attentively to what they were being told by the various resource persons, particularly the Director for Academic Planning. Whatever he says will be crucial to attaining their educational goals and aspirations. He congratulated the newly admitted students and wished them a successful experience at NAUB.
While speaking to the admitted students, the Director of Medical Services, Maj Gen RN Nkado (Rtd), Cautioned the students of the danger of self-medication while assuring them that the University clinic has competent health workers who are always there to attend to any health problem they may encounter during their stay in the University. He further disclosed that the University clinic is open 24 hours a day and responsive to attend to both staff and students.
Meanwhile, Mr Essien Ezurike of the NDLEA cautioned the students on the dangers of drug abuse and the proliferation of harmful substances as the law frowns on these acts. He added that drug abuse is dangerous to their health, but it can also sabotage their future and cause pain to their parents.
The Acting Chief Security Officer, who is also the Commanding Officer NAUB Admin Battalion Maj JG Usman, in his brief to the students, called on the students to take every possible precaution to prevent themselves from danger and harm or risk.
He disclosed that the University had established programmes and systems involving personnel procedural methods and physical means to provide a safe and secure environment on campus.
Maj Usman encouraged the students to report any criminal activity or unusual occurrence to the University authorities. He further gave some security tips like; Always be with your identity card to avoid harassment, avoid using the headset earpiece on the walkway, Always obey security personnel/ subject yourself to search, no student is allowed to carry arms or wear any military kit within and outside the University, and to stay safe in NAUB, always read the security tips.
In conclusion, he warned that when we harbour criminals, crime will increase, and we might all become victims.
