...As Guards Brigade Inter-Unit Corporal and Below Competition ends
The Nigerian Army has reemphasised the importance of training of troops as key towards addressing the evolving security challenges bedeviling the nation.
The Director Army Headquarters Department of Policy and Plans (DAPP), Maj Gen HT Dada made this assertion while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the just concluded Guards Brigade Inter Units Corporal and Below Competitions 2022 held in Lungi Barracks Maitama, abuja today 25 March 2022.
In a statement by Assistant Director Army Public Relations Guards Brigade, Captain Godfrey Anebi Abakpa the Special Guest of Honour said the competition which is in line with the Chief of Army Staff's Vision of having “a Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Task in a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria “ is also intended to enhance troops physical fitness, combat survival as well as instilling confidence and ensuring team survival which is required at all level to stay ahead of the adversaries.
Maj Gen Dada further commended the Commander Guards Brigade, Brig Gen Muhammed Takuti Usman and his team for putting together the competition which for sure would improve and continue to build the combat capacity of the participating units.
He added that the importance of training and re-training in such highly professional combat competition such as this,could not be over emphasised.
He Urge the participating units to look beyond the competition as every aspect of the event is also practically carried out in the day-day work of the Brigade and Nigerian Army in General.
He Congratulated the Brigade for a hitch free event while tasking them to continue to work hard realistically to meet up with the contemporary threats emanating from terrorism, armed banditry, kidnapping as well as other security challenges which are hitherto alien to us , as a nation.
The Competition kick started on Monday 21st March 2022 with Drill Competition, after which the contestants participated in Combat 5 Kilometer Marathon Race,Map Reading, Skill at Arms, Weapon handling, Stripping and Assembly and Obstacle Crossing Course which climaxed the event.
At the end of the Competitions, 7 Guards Battalion located in Lungi Barracks , Maitama emerged the overall first position followed by 177 Guards Battalion which is based in Shittu Alao Barracks Keffi Nasarawa State .176 Guards Battalion Gwagwalada came third while 102 Guards Battalion in Suleja and Guards Brigade Garrison located in Mambilla Barracks Asokoro came fourth position.
