Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), Prof. Godswill Obioma, was Monday night murdered in his house at Minna, Niger State, by assailants.
This came barely 48 hours after the gruesome killing of another top Nigerian politician, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak in Owerri.
The late Obioma’s wife, Elizabeth, confirmed the development to newsmen Tuesday morning.
She said the assailants came, pounced on her husband and strangled him to death.
She also told newsmen over the phone that the assassins quickly walked away after killing her husband without taking anything away from the house.
Mrs. O.bioma, who was sobbing heavily, claimed her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when armed men lurking in his complex attacked him and strangled him.
A police spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for information on the situation.
Mr. Obioma has been battling attempts to oust him from his position as the head of NECO, the Nigerian government’s leading examination authority.
