The Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress
(NLC), Kebbi state chapter, has removed its chairman,
Comrade Murtala Usman.
His removal was announced at a meeting held by the
leadership of the congress at its secretariat in Birnin Kebbi
on Tuesday, July 26,
The NLC picked Comrade Umar Halidu Alhassan as his
replacement.
Speaking with newsmen, Comrade Sabitu Lawal, the vice
chairman of the congress, said Usman was replaced
following his dismissal by his employer, the Kaduna
Electric Distribution Company (KEDCO) in July last year.
“By this, he was automatically disqualified from being the
state chairman of the NLC ,” he said.
Lawal added that earlier efforts to allow Usman resign
were refused by him.
In reaction to Usman’s removal, Sanusi Umar, the
chairman of the National Union of Teachers in Kebbi state
insisted the sacked chairman remained the leader of NLC
in the state.
He dismissed the action of the Executive Council, saying,
“As I speak to you, he is on his way to Abuja to represent
the congress at a national assignment .”
The NLC in Kebbi state has been enmeshed in leadership
crisis. USman had months back been dragged to court by
the former NLC Chairman, Sadiq Kaoje, over eligibility
issue.
Also, the state NLC secretary, Hussani Mohammad Yauri
alongside Abubakar Umar, the state NLC Auditor, wrote a
petition against Usman at the NLC headquarters in Abuja.
