The bloody attacks on nine council areas of Benue state
by Fulani herdsmen have continued to attract reactions
from people of the Agatu community.
Channels TV reports that civil rights activists and survivors
of the attacks staged protest in Makurdi, the Benue state
capital, calling on the state and federal authorities to
intervene into the crisis. They requested for the
deployment of special security forces to maintain peace in
the state.

The children living in the community also joined their
parents to protest against the violence which had left
hundreds of innocent people dead.
Speaking with journalists, one of the protesters accused
the Benue state police command of being bias.
However, the commissioner of police denied the allegation
saying:
“We invited the young man to this office and I told him
(that) from the security information we had at hand, he
should postpone this disposition until next week because
hoodlums are going to catch down on the situation.”
Meanwhile, Solomon Arase, the inspector general of police,
has deployed more police officers to the trouble-ridden
community to forestall any possible re-occurrence of the
bloodbath.
He described the killing of two police officers who were on
official assignment in the area as brutal and warned that
anybody found culpable in the gruesome murders would
face the full wrath of the law.
