Slain Mother of Four Trial suffers Major Setback

Leader of Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, today Monday 8th, 2016 led activists and lawyers to the Chief magiatrate court Lagos state Judiciary for the hearing of the killing of a woman who was murdered by a police corporal last year. The group protested the killing of one Mrs Idongesit Udoh, seeking for justice. She also reminded that other demands are still pending, which
include complete health insurance for the husband of the
deceased woman, Godwin Sunday, who also received bullet
shots on his shoulder and jaw during the shooting by the
errant Corporal.

The trial of a 28-year-old Police Corporal Museliu Aremu, alleged to have killed a mother of four, Comfort Idongesit Godwin Udoh, on 16 September, 2015, experienced a major setback on Monday at a court hearing as the accused was not produced in court.

The defendant who was earlier arraigned before a Lagos magistrates’ court at Ebute Meta and was remanded in prison custody pending the advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP was absent in court.

Legal representatives from the Women Arise for Change (Barr Christian Love), and Akwa Ibom Community (Barr Silas Udoh) were present in court on Monday to represent the complainants and watch the brief.

Human rights group, Women Arise for Change led by Joe Okey-Odumakin stormed the court in solidarity with the victims whose case the group has been pursuing since last year to obtain justice for the family of the deceased woman to demand for a speedy trial that will bring Corporal Aremu act to book in order to serve as deterrent to others

Museliu Aremu was accused of killing a nursing mother in a tricycle while seeking bribes from commuters at the Idimu area of Lagos State.
The police officer is also accused of shooting at the late woman's husband’s jaw and shoulder. His bullets barely missed the couple’s 1-month old baby, cuddled in his mother’s hands when the officer shot her dead.
Magistrate Folashade Botoku of the magistrate court in Ebute Metta, Lagos State however, adjourned the trial till 25 April, 2016 for proper arraignment of the accused before the Lagos State High Court.
