The management of University of Calabar Teaching
Hospital, UCTH, has released the 15 staff quarantined
over Ebola scare.
The staff was released after the test conducted by the
hospital proved negative of either Lassa or Ebola fever,
thereby declaring the state Ebola free.

In a statement released by Chairman of the Medical Ad
visory Council, UCTH, Dr Queeneth Kalu, and made
available to newsmen in Calabar yesterday, she said the
management is pleased to inform the public that there
is no need to panic as the preliminary test proved

tober 7 and subsequent death of a patient after
presenting with symptoms that looked like viral
haemorrhage fever in the hospital, the 15 staff that had
contacts were invited and quarantined for further
examination.
But according to her, “the quarantined staff have been
released for twice daily self-monitoring. A hospital sensi
tization seminar facilitated by the National Centre for
Disease Control was held yesterday.
The CMAC added: “We are pleased to inform you that
preliminary tests have excluded Ebola and Lassa fever.
Further tests are being done for confirmation in line with
international standards.
“The Accident and Emergency (A and E) Unit is being
decontaminated and will remain closed throughout this
weekend. Meanwhile, a temporary A and E has been set
up to attend to patients.”

dent, she said: “all our clinical services are still open on
