University of Lagos (UNILAG) has confer honouary Doctorate Degrees on three
distinguished Nigerians during its 2013/2014 Convocation. UNILAG will also confer emeriti professorship on three retired professors of the institution.
One of them honoured with Doctorate Degree of the University is the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye , others are the former Minister of Defence Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma, and the former chairman, Board of Governing Council of the University, Deacon
Gamaliel Onosode.
Also those conferred with the emeriti professorship are Prof. Olayide Abass, Prof. Francis Fajemirokun and Prof Soga Sofola.
Briefing newmen, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello disclosed that the three Doctorate Awardees are men and women who had
distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavours and had also contributed immensely to the development of the nation’s educational sector and human capital.
"All the awardees have distinguished themselves and contributed immensely to the development of the nation and human capital development as well as educational institutions. Their selections
were purely on merit as nobody can fault their choice because everybody knew what they have done to the nation, especially in the area of
education, national cohesion and human capital development. University of Lagos rarely give award to anybody, but when it does ,it goes to the best and people with impeccable characters and those who had
made meaningful contributions to the nation “he
said.
According to Bello, Pastor Adeboye is being honoured with the doctorate degree of the university for many reasons among include, being
the first PhD graduate of the University in the Department of Mathematics; for instituting chairs at the Department of Mathematics in the University to commemorate his base at the university.
He also said that Pastor Adeboye had immensely contributed to the development of mankind through his church in Nigeria and around the
world; saying that Redeemed Christian Church of God is spread across over 135 countries of the world and it is touching lives. He further stated that the cleric had done well towards the upliftment of the university, and has given generously to institution and human capacity building. Given his generosity to human kind, there is need to honour him for the good things he has
done to the development of knowledge and mankind in Nigeria and the world” he said
