Sequel to the release of the pirated copies of Kunle Afolayan’s OCTOBER 1 on Monday the 13th of April, stakeholders in the Nigerian movie industry have decided to take the fight to the street as they begin seizure and destruction of copies of the film. Here are some comments:
One of those who raided the hawkers of the film Sola Oyekanmi said:” I was driving along Opebi road some minutes back and saw about 12 guys hawking ‘Kunle Afolayan’s October 1. They were stacks of them. At the red light stop, I asked one of them to come over, he approached me saying oga, na #500 naira.” Sola went on to haggle the price with the hawker but he wouldn’t go below #450, he asked the hawker how many copies of the film he had with him and he counted and said “27 copies dey here but if you want more I get for shop there, I go bring more”. He then demanded for just the 20 copies he had on him, “I rolled up my window and started opening the packs. I broke all the 20 CDS, rolled down and threw all the broken all the broken CDS and packs back at him as the traffic light passed me except one for evidence. I shouted courses at him and when he tried to approach me I stopped my car and opened the door to get out, I was ready to pounce on him…”
