Just in time for Christmas, one Florida couple got a double dose of miracles. Michelle Brantley and her fiancé Bryan Mirabel welcomed identical conjoined twins Carter and Connor Mirabel in Jacksonville Friday night."It's hard but I'm glad that they're here," Brantley told First Coast News. Conjoined twins are rare: They happen once in every 200,000 live births. Even rarer are conjoined twin boys, which make up 30% of conjoined twin births.Brantley and Mirabel got pregnant eight months after having their first son, and, astoundingly, after she had a Depo-Provera birth control shot. They knew at her first appointment that her twins would conjoined-and that their odds of surviving were only 25%. Brantley said on Facebook that she plans on separating the twins but that they need to overcome other health issues first. It appears that the boys have two livers that are actually fused and share some intestines. The boys have already made it through their first surgery to repair organ damage. Their parents visit every day. "It's a miracle that they're able to be here now, growing strong right now, from everything that we've been told," Michelle said. The parents have set up a GoFundMe page for help with their medical expenses, with a goal of raising $15,000.
