Health Department investigation finds lapses at clinic where Joan Rivers had cardiac arrest Yorkville Endoscopy will lose federal accreditation and be forced to close if it does not address its deficiencies.

The state Health Department found serious problems at the Upper East Side clinic where legendary comedian Joan Rivers went into cardiac arrest, the Daily News confirmed Friday.

Yorkville Endoscopy on E. 93rd St. is now in danger of losing its federal accreditation, a letter from federal regulators obtained by the Daily News said.

The letter, sent to the clinic last week, stated Yorkville was found to be "noncompliant" in four areas following an investigation begun by state investigators the day after Rivers died.

"Based on the findings of the September 5, 2014 survey, Yorkville Endoscopy LLC no longer meets the requirements for participation as a supplier of services in the Medicare program," the letter obtained by the Daily News said. 

The four areas were governing body and management, surgical services, medical staff and patient rights, the notice from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, part of the Department of Health & Human Services, said.

The embattled clinic is due to lose its status as a Medicare supplier on Jan. 7 unless it can prove it has fixed the problems, the letter said.

"Termination can only be averted by correction of the deficiencies," the notice from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, part of the Department of Health & Human Services, said.

"Your facility will be revisited to verify necessary compliance," the letter said.

The full survey report sent along with the letter to Yorkville was not immediately available Friday.
