The authorities of Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State, have denied that a 27-year-old man, Chijioke Ezebuiro, who allegedly killed his 87- year old father, Dr. Emmanuel Ezebuiro , was a student in the institution.
The Deputy Registrar of the university, Okija Campus, Mr. Charles Njoku, said the authorities of the institution had thoroughly gone through their records and found that the suspect was not their student.
He said, “There is no such name in our records. We have even been to the Abia State Police Command, where he was paraded, but we were told that our school was used in error”.
The Deputy registrar maintained that the university placed high values on the morals and conducts of its students in line with the ideals of the founder, and expressed joy that the police had cleared the air on the true identity of the suspect.
Corroborating his position, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, who had paraded the suspect, said, “The school authorities were at the state police command with some of their students to possibly identify the suspect, but the fact is that the suspect has nothing to do with Madonna University.”
The PPRO added that the suspect had been charged to court and had been remanded in custody.
Chijioke’s elder brother had accused him of complicity in the murder of their bedridden father because the suspect was the only person at home when the incident
occurred.
Police had said preliminary investigations revealed there was no evidence of external incursion into the scene of the tragedy ─ the family house at Isingwu, Umuahia.
But the suspect had denied any involvement in the act, explaining that it occurred while he was in the bathroom.
He had claimed that he had a very cordial relationship with the octogenarian while he was alive.
