Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi yesterday signed the 2014 Appropriation Bill passed by the state House of Assembly into law, with a promise not to relent in the pursuit of the people-oriented programmes aimed at banishing poverty.
The governor had on December 10 presented to the Assembly N103.882bn budget proposal.
It is expected that 51.8per cent (N52,776,226,693.19) of the budget will be spent on capital projects with 48.2per cent (N50,106,166,739.81) earmarked for recurrent expenditure.
While signing the budget at the Exco Chambers, Governor’s office, Ado Ekiti, the governor lauded the Assembly for demonstrating the essence of genuine partnership with the executive arm of government in ensuring that the administration met its obligations to the people.
He said that the state legislators had cooperated with the executive in the quest to banish poverty from the state by creating the legal framework for development.
He said, “The Ekiti State legislature continues to demonstrate what it means to have a genuine partnership between the executive and the legislative branches of government.
“This is the second time that we are bringing the appropriation bill into an act of the legislature, into law before the end of the preceding fiscal year in preparation for the succeeding fiscal year.”
Meanwhile, Governor Mimiko of Ondo State is to sign his budget today.
