Multiple fire incidents yesterday razed buildings in different locations in Lagos yesterday, destroying properties worth millions of Naira. Among those affected were a Yem-Kem Herbal Product Manufacturing Company located in Ayobo Ipaja area.
It was learnt that a storey building was completely razed at Abule Egba and another one at Ibeshe area of Ikorodu of the state, thereby over stretching fire service facilities. As at the time of filing this reports rescue and recovery efforts were still ongoing to save lives and properties.
It was gathered that the gridlock experienced by trucks of the Lagos Fire Service contributed to the extent of damage recorded in all the cases as the trucks could not get to the scenes on time.
It was also learnt that one of the trucks deployed by the state fire service to another fire incident at Agege developed fault at Dopemu area and could not get to the scene of the incident. We learnt that the factory was burnt down to ashes in a fire explosion that started sometime around 6:30 pm yesterday.
The Lagos State Director of Fire Service Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, who confirmed the incidents said traffic congestions hampered quick response.
He said the fire fighting officer battled to stop the fire from spreading to adjoining houses. A factory worker in Yem – Kem said “I cannot ascertain the cause of the fire which destroyed better part of the building that houses the factory . We lost properties worth millions of naira.” See more pictures after cut....
