But her decision to marry Lagos businessman, Tunde Oriowo almost immediately has received knocks from some colleagues and fans of the actress. While announcing that she has parted ways with Mr. Okunfulire, Laide also said she started a new relationship with Mr. Oriowo late last year, and it has been sealed with a Nikkai. The proper wedding, according to her, will hold before the year runs out.
A statement signed by Folorunsho Hamsat, Laide’s publicist reads: “We would like to announce to the general public on behalf of Nollywood star actress, Laide Bakare that she has officially opted out of her relationship with Mr. Okunfulire, her former husband. While it lasted, the actress showed the utmost level of maturity, in spite of the ‘glaring injustice’ from her former husband. Laide has endured the marriage with Mr. Okunfulire to whom she displayed total affection. But things fell apart when she discovered that she was indeed married to a man with a legally married wife and two children, not a single man she thought he was as she was told by Mr. Okunfulire when the relationship started.
Hamsat stated further that: “Laide has just entered into a new relationship with a Lagos-based popular businessman, Mr. Tunde Oriowo. The relationship began late last year and culminated in the lovers officially sealing it with the Muslim rites called Nikkai, at a quiet ceremony in Lagos attended by trusted associates and close family members from both sides.
Laide Bakare and Mr. Tunde Oriowo who both are currently holidaying in the United States of America, will be holding the wedding proper with a big bash before the end of 2013.”
A colleague of Laide who doesn’t want her name mentioned told pyemedia that, “well, I will not advise her stay in a relationship she is not happy with, but my concern is the fact that she is getting married immediately. Does that mean she had been cheating as well? I wish her the best anyway.”
Funke Ayodele, a movie buff told Pyemedia that “there is more to this issue. She wouldn’t have called it quits simply because the man she has been married to for many years already has a wife and kids. I believe there is more she is not telling us. Besides, it is quite sudden for her to remarry.”
